Come along with Kimmeron as she describes her newest collection.
laying out the large pendant
The Kaleidoscope Collection is all about shapes - bold, fun and flirty shapes that build into modern pieces of unique design.

I start most designs with very basic shapes. For Kaleidoscope I'm using circles and squares with clean, simple lines. I cut hundreds of these shapes in various sizes with my jewelers saw. Each piece is then grinded to height and sanded smooth.

Once all the components are cut, I begin laying them out to create bigger patterns. This is a painstaking back-and-forth process to decide which shape looks best in every single space.

Then it's time to solder each shape to the next. Soldering is a delicate process that requires precision and patience. The large pendant design to the left took nearly three weeks to complete.

It is interesting to see the varying patinas sterling silver takes on during the heating process. Sterling has a melting point of 1640 degrees Faranheit. The consistent heating and cooling of the metal to such high degrees creates the various colors.

When soldering is complete, the piece goes through a cleaning process using sulphuric acid to remove the residue and scaling. This process brings the sterling back to it's natural white patina.

If I like the finished piece, it goes to final cleaning and polishing where the lustre of the silver is brought up to a high sheen.

I spend hours deciding how to attach pendants to the chain. Sometimes I think an elaborate connection is the way to go. But often times the simplest of connections seems the best way not to avoid detracting from the design itself.

The Kaleidoscope Collection is launching this season with only a few pieces. The designs vary in size, but they all have the small shapes that remind me of looking through a small peephole as a child, gazing in wonderment at the intricate patterns these simple shapes can create.

It's wonderful to start from zero and create something cool and unique. That's what I hope you will think of the Kaleidoscope Collection. Kimmeron
